Within a setting
of giant Douglas firs and Redwoods and next to the beautiful
Rhinefield Ornamental Drive the Rhinefield House Hotel has probably
one of the best situations in the New Forest. The Rhinefield
House Hotel is a grand country house and is a mixture of Tudor
and Gothic architecture with fine examples of woodcarving, masonry
and plasterwork.
I found the hotel to be well managed and the staff
friendly and helpful. The hotel has extensive grounds/gardens
and there is a relaxed and comfortable feel about the place.
One quirky thing about the hotel is the Alhambra
room (see picture below), the room was constructed in the style
of the Alhambra Palace in Granada and was a Christmas present
from Mabel Walker-Munro to her husband. The room can now be hired
for private dinners.
History
In 1885 the only
daughter of the Walker family became engaged to a Lieutenant
Munro, and was given as an engagement present £250,000
with which to build a family home at Rhinefield.
