Stewart started
painting in 2003 whilst living and working at Westover
Hall Hotel, Milford on Sea which
his family owned from 1995 to 2006. This was followed by working
in the fashion industry creating advertising campaigns with photographers
and stylists including Lord Snowdon,Terrence Donovan and Isabella
Blow.
Influences of the local coastline of Lymington and Christchurch
Bay have inspired the dramatic seascapes together with the open
skies and brilliant sunsets which have become a trademark of his
work.
The latest collection of abstract paintings take their cue from
the local fishing boats and beach huts. Layers of brightly coloured
paint washed away by the sea and battered by the waves. Painstaking
construction of acrylic paint, built up and scraped down, communicate
a raw power and rough texture which capture a deep breath of sea
air.
He is represented by Cadogan Contemporary in London and both the
Lyndhurst Gallery and Coastal Gallery in Lymington. |
