Boscombe
Beach
Boscombe is not considered the most upmarket area in the
Bournemouth locality, however it has improved significantly
in recent times with regeneration plans on the beach area
alone to the tune of £9.6 million. |
 |
| Overstrand
beachfront complex (above) is
part of the regeneration; the buildings are being transformed
into a year-round leisure facility catering for water sports
enthusiasts. It will feature a high-quality cafe, a surf
school, lifeguard station, showers, toilets, changing facilities,
and a beach office on the ground floor and a glass-fronted
restaurant on the first floor. |
Submerged
artificial reef
Work is due to start on a submerged artificial
reef that will be strategically located between the first
two groynes to the east of Boscombe Pier, in front of the
Overstrand complex, giving a wonderful opportunity for watching
from the café/restaurant as well as from the beach. The
actual size of the reef will take up approximately one hectare
and will be sited approximately 225 metres off shore. The
reef will be built from large sand-filled geo-textile bags – some
up to 30m in length. They are extremely strong and the likelihood
of damage is very small. |
Pier
Boscombe Pier is due to open shortly
(May 2008) after a £1.2 million refurbishment and
repair. |
Cycling
on the Promenade
The restriction to cycling on the promenade now only
applies for July and August 2008 and between 10.00am and 6.00pm.
Dogs
From 1 May to 30 September dogs must be kept on a lead
when on the promenade.
From 1 May to 30 September dogs are banned on the beach except for designated
areas (an area between Fishermans's walk and Southbourne). |
