| Mudeford Sandbank
is one of the country's most exclusive beachhut enclaves,
a beachhut here can cost over
£100,000.
The sandbank adjoins the ancient headland of
Hengistbury Head and forms a natural barrier between Christchurch
harbour and the open sea. The area is designated a Site of
Nature Conservation Interest and can only be reached by foot,
bicycle or land train from Hengistbury Head or by ferry from
Mudeford and Christchurch Quays.
There are about 300 beach huts on the sandbank,
and they are unique because it is possible to sleep in them
overnight, consequently a community spirit has grown up here. |
