Looking for someone in need

Originally Longdown was a dairy farm, but when milk quotas were introduced in the early 80s a new source of income was necessary. In desperation they tried out educational trips to the farm, this became so successful that the farm was opened up to the public the following year.

The farm was then leased to a private company but they went bust in the late 80s

The original manager of the dairy farm, Bryan Pass and his wife Dawn took over the farm in 2001. Within a few days disaster struck when the foot-and-mouth crisis shut down the countryside.
For Bryan, the foot-and-mouth crisis meant a return to his old job as an electrical wholesaler, and long days caring for the animals after work.
“If it hadn't been for the support of local people the farm would not have survived " he said. "Almost all the refurbishment work was done by volunteers from the village."

Since then the Activity Farm has gone from strength to strength and has become one of the most popular attractions in the New Forest.

Bryan and Dawn Pass would now like to return some of the help they got when times were bad. If you are in need or know of someone in need in the local area please write to Bryan Pass at: Deerleap Lane, Ashurst, Nr Southampton, Hampshire SO40 7EH or email: enquiries@longdownfarm.co.uk
