| Wilverley Plain 22-Dec-2007 map |
Wilverley Inclosure was the first to be
enclosed (fenced) in 1775. The first trees planted did not grow, so the
inclosure
was"thrown open" to the Forest in 1808, but in 1809 it was
re-fenced and planted with oaks. Some of these oaks can still be seen
around the car parks and scattered around the inclosure. The inclosure
today is a mixture of confirs and broadleaves, old and young, with some
open areas making it a beautiful and interesting place to walk. The surface
has been classed as moderatly smooth and gravelled - Forestry Commission |
