The area of heathland (sometimes called Beaulieu Hilltop Heath to distinguish it from the Beaulieu Heath a few miles to the west) and conifer plantations to the east of the Beaulieu river is peppered with Bronze Age barrows, sometimes occuring in groups (or "cemeteries") and sometimes singly.
