| The large building on the hill is the Grand
Hotel, which
had a large tennis court in the front. It was demolished in the 1970s The Pier (Stevens Directory, 1883) is 450 feet long, built of iron and forms a pleasant promenade to the visitors, while a bazaar well stocked displays a choice collection of fossils, and ornaments made from the peculiarly coloured sands from Alum Bay. The pier which is now in private hands is closed and in need of restoration. |
