Description

Rhinefield House was originally the site of a keepers’ lodge and it was one of the nurseryman who in 1859 was responsible for planting the wonderful collection of trees we see today.

In 1877 Rhinefield was sold by the Crown to the Walker family. As an engagement present to their only daughter the family provided enough funds to build a family home at Rhinefield (now the Rhinefield House Hotel).

Besides the Giant Redwoods and Douglas Firs it is well worth a visit in Spring when the rhododendrons are in bloom.

Walks

Tall Trees Trail
Tall Trees Trail takes you on a leisurely stroll under majestic conifers planted in 1859 when it was the vogue to grow exotic trees. The path is a flat, fairly smooth surface with no gates. There are information plaques all along the walk, giving details of trees and forestry information. The walk is a little under 2 miles and will take about 45 minutes.
Blackwater Arboretum Trail
The Blackwater Arboretum, a short walk from Blackwater car park houses a collection of trees from many countries. The sensory trail encourages people to use their senses to discover the many different smells, textures and sounds of these trees. The path is a fairly smooth gravelled surface with one very gentle slope and frequent resting places. The walk is under 1 miles and will take about 30 minutes.
