The Electricity Museum
is a hidden gem, it is little advertised and not a lot of people
are even aware of its existence yet it is probably one of the best
museums in the region.
The Museum is housed in the Old Power Station and was originally
built in 1903 to supply the trams that ran directly from Poole
to Christchurch. It went out of use with the coming to the National
Grid in 1926.
The Museum is a private museum, owned and funded by Scottish & Southern Energy,
and its primary function is as an educational facility,
which is enjoyed by many of the local schools.
An odd quirkiness of the museum is that it is probably the only
museum in the country that doesn’t open on the weekends. |
