House was originally a gentleman's residence and
for many years a school.
'A walk through Lymington' by Edward
King
When I was eight years old I was sent to Mr Murdoch’s
academy for boys at Stanwell House. Mr Murdoch was
a fierce venerable old gentleman with long white
whiskers who had taught my father when he was a boy.
Here I lived in terror as he kept a huge bundle of
canes in the corner and was extremely free with them.
Some where holly sticks trimmed down but with knots
still protruding were extremely painful when used. |
