| Lymington
Airfield |
At the end of these fields and on the left is Lymington Airfield, which in 1944
was the base for 80 Thunderbolt fighter-bombers of the American 50th Fighter
Group.
Lymington Airfield was built in the winter of 1943 prior to D-day; the US airforce
flew Thunderbolts from here. The land was returned to agriculture in1946. All
that can be seen now is the Landing Strip and one Blister Hangar. |
